The Hollywood
Education & Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.) is a community based
literacy and mentoring project, providing one-on-one tutoring and
mentoring for students and their families, as well as instruction,
training, and internships for volunteer tutors and people opening
community centers in other areas, and is delivered at no cost to the
participants. The specific problem we are tackling here at H.E.L.P. is
illiteracy and the effects it creates on the individual, the family and
the community.

Headquartered in
Hollywood, H.E.L.P. is a model tutoring/mentoring facility. With
unprecedented growth, H.E.L.P. has begun training mentors and program
directors from many areas throughout the United States. This
training features an internship and certification program unique to the
field of mentoring/tutoring.
Every step of the
program has been successfully piloted to ensure results with virtually
every student involved. Built only on those things proven
workable, the well-being and advancement of the youth on the program
serve as beacons to its effectiveness.

the California Youth Mentor Initiative, H.E.L.P. works in
collaboration with the Police Activities League of the L.A.P.D. and others
to provide a full complement of services for Los Angeles youth - and
many adults as well. |
Honorary Hollywood
Mayor Johnny Grant has said of the project, "I have to tell you, I
have been in this town a long time and I have heard a lot of promises.
And I have gotten used to a lot of disappointment. But what we
have here is something that is really making a difference, from people
who really care."
