We’re dedicated to helping students and families every day. It’s a regular occurrence here at HELP Hollywood to see students who previously “hated school,” who had trouble learning, or who had a hard time with specific subjects, like math or reading, turn around and become winning students who love studying and can apply what they learn.
There’s nothing more gratifying than seeing the lightbulb come on when our students have an “ah-ha!” moment—the moment when a subject that was previously foggy and hard to grasp becomes simple and easy to understand.
Here are a few recent HELP Hollywood success stories from a parent and two of our students!
“I am so happy with the progress my daughter Celeste has made here at H.E.L.P.
“Today at school the teacher gave her a recognition document, because of the improvement she has had since coming to be tutored. Now she can read by herself, she is not shy in her classroom and she takes part in the class when the teacher asks her to do so. “I myself finished ‘Learning How to Learn’ and while this is great for me, it also means that I can help my daughter more effectively. At the moment I am learning the basic sounds of the English language and I am so proud of myself.
“We are going to continue to come here—I can see that this really works.”

Before I came to H.E.L.P. I was cranky and I never wanted to go to school. I hated school.”
“Before I came to H.E.L.P., I was cranky and I never wanted to go to school. I hated school. It was boring and I wasn’t really good at anything. I didn’t know how to read very well. My math was horrible, and I wasn’t very good at spelling either. I used to feel so dumb. I would go crazy when my mom said, “School time!”
“One of the problems I had was that whenever I was reading, I would yawn and feel dizzy. I would stop reading and not want to read again. I really didn’t like the feeling of being dizzy and tired. And when I read I would get frustrated. My problem was that I would read and skip parts. I wouldn’t get the story or the instructions I was reading about.
“The ‘Learning How to Learn Course’ taught me that when I was studying and getting sleepy and yawning it was because I had misunderstood words. It taught me how to not skip the things I am reading about and what to do when I get tired. I look up my misunderstood words. I also learned how to look up words on the ‘How to Use a Dictionary Course.”
“Now I wake up and say, “Can I go to school now?”

“I learned more about equations and expressions. I learned what symbols and numerals are. Thank you, Luis and Mayra, for helping me finish Math 1-A. I am proud of myself for trying and winning.”
